Hand-forged "bearded axe" made of Damascus steel, featuring a design used as early as the 6th century AD. The effectiveness of this shape has been proven many times in combat. This axe is often associated with Vikings and Scandinavian warriors. The "beard" or "hook" of the axe is useful for disarming an opponent or pulling down an enemy’s shield. The extended cutting edge of the bearded axe provides a longer cutting surface. The user can also grip the handle directly behind the axe head for better control in close combat. Damascus carbon steel is not stainless, so it is sensitive to oxidation. Regular maintenance, including oiling and keeping it dry, minimizes the risk of rust. The hardness ranges from 55-60 HRC on the Rockwell scale, with each layer varying in hardness depending on the steel type. For sharpening steel axe blades, we recommend using diamond and water sharpening stones. If you're not 100% confident in your skills, contact us. We will sharpen your axes and knives individually to your specifications. We also regularly host knife sharpening workshops. Alternatively, seek a professional sharpener in your area. Damage caused by improper sharpening is irreversible.

Cleaning the Axe:

Particles adhering to the surface of the blade from aggressive substances may begin to corrode and create stains on the surface that look like rust. However, it’s not the axe head rusting, but the particles themselves. To remove them, baking soda is commonly used, which, when mixed with water, forms a "paste" that can be applied with an old cork stopper.
